No advertising, no cross-site tracking, nothing that identifies you - and so no banner.

Cookies are small files a website stores on your device. manx.directory uses as few as possible - just what’s needed to run the site, keep you signed in, and stop automated abuse.
None of this is used for advertising or cross-site tracking, and we set nothing that builds a profile of you or follows you to other sites. We do use a third-party service to count visits, described below - it sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, which is why there is still nothing here to ask your consent for.

Only the first of those is actually a cookie. The other three are stored by your browser and never sent to our server. We list them anyway, because the rules cover anything a site stores on your device - the word “cookie” is not what matters - and a page that claims to tell you what we store should tell you all of it.
md_session is set only when you sign in, and cleared when you sign out or when it expires. The 30 days is fixed from the moment you sign in - it isn’t extended by continued use - so you’ll sign in again roughly once a month. Without this cookie, the dashboard can’t work.
If you have a promoted listing, your dashboard shows how many people have viewed it. We count these on our server from ordinary web requests - no cookie is set on the visitor’s device, and we don’t identify individual visitors to you or track anyone across other sites.
We use Fathom Analytics to see how many people use the site, which pages they read, and roughly where they arrived from. We chose it because of what it does not do: it sets no cookies, it stores nothing on your device, it does not follow you to other sites, and it does not build a profile of you or record anything that identifies you.
It checks whether you have asked it not to count you, which is the only thing it ever reads from your browser’s storage - and it writes nothing there unless you deliberately opt out. It also honours your browser’s “Do Not Track” setting, so if you have that on, it does not count you at all. See Fathom’s privacy policy.
Our promotion page loads Paddle’s checkout script, because Paddle require it to be present on the page they open checkout from. So do the pages in your dashboard where a listing can be promoted or a card updated. No page a visitor browses the directory with loads it. Loading it sets one cookie, __cf_bm, belonging to Paddle and lasting about half an hour. It is Cloudflare’s bot check protecting Paddle’s own systems - it isn’t analytics, it doesn’t follow you between sites, and it is set whether or not you buy anything.
The checkout overlay for promotion is provided by Paddle, our merchant of record. Paddle may set further cookies of their own to process your payment securely and prevent fraud. See Paddle’s privacy policy.
You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings. Blocking the essential session cookie will stop you being able to sign in and manage a listing, but you can still browse and search the directory freely.
If we ever add something that stores on your device beyond what is listed here, we will ask for your consent first and update this page. The current version always lives here, with the date it was last updated.
